June 1st, 2011 marks the continuation of change for equality here in Illinois: this is the first day that civil unions, both for heterosexual as well as homosexual couples, would be legally allowed and accepted.

I say this is the continuation of change because it is not the beginning, nor is it close to the end of it. Change began long ago, in the form of legally allowing black men to vote... this is only the next step towards true equality for all, not just in Illinois, but for America.

Never forget what Mr. Lew tells us: it is "our world", and we are the ones that can and should shape it... we should not bend or stand by and let others more prejudiced, less accepting, and less understanding be the ones continue the discrimination and ignorance.

This is the land of the free... let's be brave and make it the home of the equal as well
